Salvation Army Clitheroe.

Confidentiality at Salvation Army Clitheroe is not a high priority, until it benefits management.

  • One client learned she was pregnant while she was in treatment. She didn't want the information shared with her stepmother.
That is her legal right as an adult.
  • The Residential Director met with the stepmother, and gave out information about the pregnancy. Apparently his intention was to tell the parents why their daughter was being expelled. [She was expelled for getting pregnant].
  • The pregnant client was then kicked out. She was briefly homeless when she was expelled.
  • The client was a mid-20's woman who had been a Psychology major at U.A.A.

Pregnancy status is protected medical information under HIPAA laws. Disclosure of pregnancy status, against the wishes of the pregnant person, is a serious HIPAA violation.
(Federal "HIPAA" regulations govern confidentiality at treatment centers.)
