Salvation Army Clitheroe

... behind closed doors.

Audio is from an Alaska department of Labor hearing.
Full audio sections in context are on the Audio page
  • In March '07 I went to Trendsetters to get my hair cut. Trendsetters has been where I go to get my hair cut for many, many years. Trendsetters is the largest hair cutting establishment in Alaska. They have 10+ haircutters working at any given time.
  • The hair cutter asked me where I worked. I said "Clitheroe".
  • She said her boyfriend was in treatment at Clitheroe. Her boyfriend was client "Zack". I changed the topic in a polite way.  Most of the conversation was about a friend of hers that needed treatment. She took the Detox number, and said her friend would call.
  • The next day, the Director accused me of telling the hair cutter that her boyfriend was in treatment at Clitheroe. click here  The Director was aware that the haircutter had been visiting and telephoning the client while he was in treatment, long before the haircut.
  • When he asked me about the conversation, I told him exactly what had been said. He kept insisting that there was a violation, and I kept asking him to just speak to the haircutter.

There were two people who were actually at the haircut. He would not trust my word, and he repeatedly refused to speak to the other person, the haircutter.

  • On the audio he says I agreed that there had been some kind of a violation. That is not true. I told him again, and again that there had been no violation. I indicated that if he wanted to make up something other than the truth, he did not need my help. The Director and I both knew that the Director was trying to protect himself.
  • If I had known that person worked there (which I didn't), and if I had decided to specifically get my hair cut by her (which I didn't) my chances of getting her specifically as a haircutter would have been about one-in-ten.

  •  Most staff members have conversations with most clients about personal lives. The suggestion that I went looking for the girlfriend of a client is disgusting.

  •  The friend of the client's girlfriend did call.  I stayed very far away from her case. The Director had made so many ridiculous accusations that I did not want to let him use this. After some time she was admitted. She did not do well in Detox. She tried unsuccessfully to get treatment. The Residential Director had started a rumor that the young woman had come to Clitheroe to see the client (i.e. to see her friend's boyfriend) rather than to get treatment. (Comments were made, and documented, in the young lady's file.) The young woman was a very serious hardcore addict with a child. Normally, nobody would even ask about her motives, much less make up false motives, then use the false motives to deny service. The Residential Director just wanted to prove that he had the power.
  • This young lady was treated very poorly by staff, to the point where she had a minor nervous breakdown in Detox.
